Vinnai Thandi Varuvayya – Film Review

3. I have classified him with Balachander, Manirathnam et all.
4. I don’t know any technicalities of the Film. I view the Film as a lay man.

Place:

We watched the Film in Fun Cinemas, Sigma Mall Bangalore. I love this mall for 2 things, Good utilization of Small Space, and Small Shops in front of the mall. Theatre was Good with reclining chairs, Good snacks and a neatly maintained Rest room(More Important than others you see ;-) ).This Review is not about the Mall, so let me stop with it now.

Story

Film Starts with a curious Question of “Why did I love Jesse in midst of all beautiful girls?” by the Hero, Silambarasan.Then the Camera moves to Trisha dressed in beautiful Christian bride dress. After that story goes to flash back of how Simbu fell in love with Trisha. As in all Goutham’s Film it is “Love at First Sight”.

Simbu is an aspirant Director who has completed his BE in Mechanical Engg. Trisha is residing in First Floor of Simbu’s house. She is a mallu Christian .

Trisha also loves Simbu but hides her feeling, as she doesn’t want to go against her father wishes. But after some time, she says that she loves him and cannot marry him. She decides to marry the man arranged by her father. In the church suddenly she decides not to marry him and says so to the church and all the assembled gathering. At this Point, we think why the heck? What the hell she was thinking till last minute.

On the Same day she promises to her father she will never see Karthik and will never speak to him again. She meets Simbu in the same night and says that she will marry him but after getting acceptance from her father. I have never seen such a confused character in my life or in the film.After that she meets Simbu and move with him. This gives the hope to viewers and to Simbu.

Simbu moves to Goa for a Film Shoot, she meets the same boy arranged by her father in her home, she tries to convince her father, he says a ‘No’ to karthick.She calls Simbu and says that she want to come with him. He is very busy with his work. We remember ‘kandukonden kandukonden’ at this particular spot. She gets angry Send a Sms, saying everything is over. When he comes to meet her she shouts at him to go.

Simbu becomes a director and he is shooting for his film, which is nothing but his love story. He goes to US for a Film shoot and sees Trisha, then marry her there immediately. Here comes the next shock of the life, It is the ending in his film not in reality. Really she is married to the man arranged by her father. She comes to see the Film and congratulates him for his success. Story ends here.

Pros

Camera, cinematography and Color Tones are really beautiful. Magic of all Gautham’s movie is he transfers all the viewers from their seats to the Scene. They satisfy the expectation of viewer in Goutham’s movie. Trisha and Silambarasan’s dresses are so good.

A.R.Rahman’s Background music scores good. But songs are not in line with expectations. Harris Jayaraj, Gautham combination is better than this combo.

Simbu has lived his role very well in the story. This is the First Film I have seen him do a role without any over acting. He has shown his real skills in the Film. He should henceforth take roles like this in future rather than his usual heroic roles.

Dialogues are Simple and razor sharp.

Cons
I have never seen such a confused Story line. Some people think this confused story line as Poetic, Ok :-). It is their Problem.

Trisha’s character lacks depth. Heroin’s in Gautham’s movie has a strong role and are shown with in-depth character. This movie lacks both.

Overall rating

Over all it is a below average Movie. It is the worst of all the Gautham’s movie I have seen. It is not a movie worth watching in Theatre.
